Jann Balmer was appointed as the full-time Director for Continuing Medical Education (CME) of the University of Virginia School of Medicine in December 1990. She holds faculty appointments in the School of Medicine and Nursing and has provided strategic direction in the creation of the School of Nursing Continuing Education Program. Jann serves on the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Commission for Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD). She also served as a member of the Vision Commission for Continuing Board Certification convened by American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) to re-envision board certification for physicians. She was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2017. Jann served as the President, Past President and Board Member of the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (formerly Alliance for CME) from 2005 -2012. Jann received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (CEHP) in 2014. She continues to discuss innovative approaches to interprofessional and organisational change for healthcare teams.
